Through a combination of hard work, perseverance and luck, TV star Asha Negi managed to gain the popularity and love she has today. However, all this would not have been possible had she not stepped out of her house in Dehradun to pursue acting in Mumbai.
In an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, the actress shared how her parents initially shrugged off her plans, thinking it was a phase. It wasn’t until she went on hunger strike that they realized her passion and gave her a few months to look for work.
On how she convinced her parents to pursue an acting career, Asha Negi said,

“They thought it was one of those stages where I wanted to have pets at home. I tried so hard but they never took me seriously. That’s when I moved on hunger strike and I was starving for 2-3 days. My mother could not bear it and I asked her to give me 2-3 months and I told her that I will come back, who convinced my father and finally I came.”
The actor also said that her parents were happier when Asha Negi was doing TV as they had not yet adapted to the OTT medium:
“My mother even watched my shows in reruns. Today they are happy that I am happy in my space. “but they enjoyed it back then.”
Talking further about her journey and how television happened by chance, Asha Negi said,
“I was so lost when I came to Mumbai. doing commercials and films, but television was never even a plan, when I realized that it was not that easy, I continued to audition and then I got a role in the series I keep saying that television accepted me and gave me so much love. karti thi (I was such a bad actor, I’m so thankful for how things turned out).

The actress often gives an insight into her roots in the mountains through her social networks. In our interview, Asha Negi revealed that she is still a proud Pahadi at heart and listed the qualities she retains as someone who hails from there:
“I think the first is simplicity, that’s something that’s still there. a bit trusting and people often take advantage of that. I believe I will learn and keep a clear conscience.
